Although I sell handicapping systems, you may notice that I always tell my buyers that they need to use their own handicapping skills, judgment and good money management techniques when they use them. In spite of that, I still get emails from people who tell me that they like the systems because they “don’t have to do any handicapping.” That upsets me.
In the first place, I don’t write systems that work with NO handicapping. Even the spot play systems like The Marks Method should only be used with your own handicapping skills and judgment. Handicapping systems are guides, not rule books or automatic picking devices.
I know there are handicapping software programs that are touted as automatic systems that work with the push of a button, so that you don’t have to handicap at all to pick winners. Kind of like having a robot pick winners for you, like I say in the title. I’ve looked at more than one of these systems and wasn’t impressed. For one thing, I like handicapping.
I’m the kind of person who enjoys solving puzzles and that’s what handicapping dog races is to me – figuring out the puzzle of who’s going to win the race. Of course, it’s about winning money too, but I really think I’d do it even if I couldn’t cash tickets on it. I know not everyone feels that way, so I understand that some people just want to buy a system and have it tell them which dog will make them money by winning, with no effort or thought on their part.
Well, my systems won’t do that, but they will improve your handicapping skills so that YOU can do that.
