Free program for Dubuque’s $45K Future Stars Stakes Round 2 on Friday night. This should be a hotly contested second round in this series. There are 6 greyhounds in first place with 20 points each and any one of them could break out of the pack and take the lead tonight. Six way ties for second and third place make for a good mix of contenders also.
The third round will take place next Wednesday, the 24th, during the matinee, and the final contest will be held on Saturday night, September 27th. After the first round, Superior Kennel has taken the lead with wins in 5 out of 6 races! Quite a feat. Only Copper Kettle Kennel was able to pull off an upset win in the last stakes race of the program in the first round.
Other stakes being run are Bluffs Run’s Secretary’s Choice Final on Saturday and the third round of Wheeling’s WVGOBA Juvenile on Sunday. As always free programs for these and other greyhound tracks are available at Trackinfo.
If harness racing is your thing, don’t miss the fastest trotter in the world, Sebastian K, when he vies for first place in the Centaur Trotting Classic Stakes at Hoosier Park on Saturday. Sebastian K, trained and driven by Ake Svanstedt, has set records wherever he’s trotted and has missed only one of 8 races he’s run in North America.
I saw him win with a world record time of 1:49 in the Sun Invitational at Mohegan Sun in June and was stunned by how easy he made it look. He does have competition in this race with Market Share, likely to be second favorite, in the sweet spot on the rail. I’ll definitely be watching this one.
Thoroughbred stakes races will be featured at several tracks, including the Cotillion for fillies at Parx and the Lonesome Handicap at Belmont on Saturday. And also on Saturday at Charles Towne, there’s a stakes heavy card you won’t want to miss. And Northlands will feature a card full of stakes races on Saturday also. Better start handicapping early for this weekend. And if you need some help, here’s a link to the free thoroughbred selections on Trackmaster.
