Greyhound Handicapping: The Buddy System

Whether you’re just starting out at the dog track or have been going for years, you can always learn something new. One way to do that is to team up with someone who enjoys handicapping as much as you do. If you have a buddy who goes to the same track you do, this is ideal.

Two heads are better than one, they say. So if you and your friend put your heads together, you might be surprised at how much you can teach each other. It’s not just that you can compare notes on each race. You can also fill in the blanks that you each have in your method of picking winners.

Say you’re good at spotting dogs that are dropping down and he’s good at spotting dogs that have won at this grade before. If you combine that knowledge, you might be able to put together a trifecta bet that neither of you would have thought of.

It’s amazing how often someone else will have the dog that you left out of your bet. If you go over the races with enough time to discuss each one with each other, you’re less likely to leave out crucial dogs. Of course, this only works when you both share what you see and are open and honest with each other.

So, if you do this, should you go in together on bets? Well, that depends. Some people like to keep their betting separate. Some even feel that it jinxes them when they go in with other people. Everyone is different and you have to be careful not to interfere with their style.

That said, next time you go to the dog track, maybe you might want to talk this buddy system idea over with a friend and see if it could work for you. Who knows, you might both find yourself splitting a superfecta ticket at the IRS window.
